Katherine Dunham: Dances from L'ag'ya
Will Brady, a History and Music double-major, presents a lecture and recital on Friday, April 4, beginning at 6pm in Room 112 of Altgeld Hall. The evening features his arrangement of some of Katherine Dunham's early musical work in the Caribbean for percussion ensemble and his research on Dunham and her ethnographic research. Mr. Brady's research is based on the Katherine Dunham papers in Morris Library's Special Collections Research Center and represents the culmination of "a wonderful year-long senior project that showcases cultural history, transcends disciplines, and features SIU's Special Collections." This music has never been performed by anyone not affiliated with Dunham's Afro-diasporic dance troupe.
